When we think about generosity in the life of the Church, we often think of the ministries our gifts make possible—feeding neighbors, supporting children and youth, caring for our communities, and helping congregations share Christ’s love in meaningful ways.

But generosity takes many forms, and sometimes the difference is not in why we give but in how our gifts go to work.

At the Oklahoma Disciples Foundation, generosity helps make ministry possible in two important ways: giving through the Foundation and giving to the Foundation.

Giving THROUGH the Foundation enables individuals, families, and congregations to support ministries and causes that matter to them. Gifts to existing endowments, the creation of new funds, and legacy gifts can provide resources for ministry today and for generations to come. Through grants and distributions, those resources support the work of congregations and ministries across Oklahoma and beyond.

Giving TO the Foundation supports the work that makes those opportunities possible. Contributions to the Disciple Club help sustain the Foundation’s ongoing work, while gifts to the Howard Operating Endowment help fund that work into the future.

Both are important and ultimately serve the same purpose: helping ministry happen.

Over the past year, we’ve shared stories of congregations finding new ways to serve their neighbors, endowments continuing to support ministry decades after they were established, and individuals whose generosity created opportunities they might never have imagined.

Behind those stories are people who believed their gifts could make a difference. And alongside them is a Foundation committed to helping those gifts continue serving the purposes for which they were given.

As we approach the season of Thanksgiving and year-end giving, we’ll explore how generosity continues to shape ministry. I encourage you to think about what gift you could make to support your passions in the church.

Whether a gift supports ministry through the Foundation or helps sustain the Foundation itself, the goal is the same: making ministry possible today and tomorrow.
