At the Oklahoma Disciples Foundation, we are blessed to walk alongside individuals and families who choose many different ways to support ministry. While many gifts arrive by check or online donation, others come in quieter forms — including gifts of appreciated stock that help fund endowments, grants, and long-term ministry.
Because these gifts are a little less familiar to many donors, we wanted to share a glimpse into how ODF receives and stewards stock gifts with care, clarity, and faithfulness.
Why a Gift of Stock – A gift of stock that has gained in value over the years is one of the best ways to achieve philanthropic goals. Generally speaking, a direct gift of stock results in a donor receiving a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock without having to recognize and pay taxes on the capital gains.
A Thoughtful, Coordinated Process – When someone chooses to make a gift of stock to ODF, they are never navigating the process alone. From the beginning, we work closely with our trusted investment partner, Bank of Oklahoma, to ensure each gift is handled smoothly and responsibly.
Rather than simply receiving assets and sorting out the details later, ODF takes a proactive approach. By communicating with donors in advance and coordinating directly with Bank of Oklahoma and the donor’s broker, we help ensure that stock gifts are received accurately, credited properly, and applied to the donor’s intended purpose — whether that is an endowment, the grants program, or another ministry fund.
This collaboration allows us to honor both the donor’s generosity and the integrity of the gift.
