Western Oaks Christian Church held its Third Annual Back to School Bash on Saturday, August 2. Students from several local schools came together for a day filled with energy, generosity, and community spirit. Months of planning by Western Oaks Christian Church, local educators, and community partners made the event a huge success, with support from an Oklahoma Disciples Foundation grant.
The celebration kicked off with the Putnam City West Drum Line entertaining the crowd, followed by the Jr. ROTC presenting the Colors, and a moving National Anthem. From there, parents and students explored rooms full of resources—everything from free school supplies and backpacks to haircuts, health screenings, and fresh produce. The Oklahoma City-County Health Department, Bethany Library, and many others added to the excitement with information, books, and giveaways.
Local businesses and organizations stepped up in a big way. The WOCC “Hot Dog Brigade” served food donated by community partners, while groups like the Lions Club, Delta Dental, and Eyemart Express offered vision screenings, toothbrushes, and more. Students also enjoyed face painting, library sign-ups, and meeting members of the Putnam City West football team and alumni volunteers.
In all, more than 720 backpacks were packed and distributed by WOCC youth, with countless volunteers giving their time, talents, and energy. Special thanks go to the schools, church members, PC West students, and generous community partners who made this event possible. Together, they created a day of joy, hope, and readiness for a new school year.
As we celebrate the impact of this year’s event, we invite you to help ensure that moments like these continue for years to come. Your gifts can make a difference—whether by donating directly to support our 2026 grant cycle or by contributing to one of the many endowments at the Oklahoma Disciples Foundation that sustain our grantmaking program. Together, we can keep building opportunities for students, families, and communities across Oklahoma.
