The Oklahoma Disciples Foundation remembers with gratitude the life of Marilee Hattendorf, a longtime member of Southern Hills Christian Church in Edmond who passed away on August 12, 2025.
Marilee was known for her compassion, her servant heart, and her willingness to step forward whenever there was a need. A lifelong educator, she brought the same spirit of care and encouragement into her classrooms as she did into her church and community.
At Southern Hills Christian Church, Marilee was deeply involved in mission and outreach. She joined mission trips to Honduras and the Dominican Republic, lending her hands and heart to serve others. Closer to home, she helped create and lead the church’s “Alternative Christmas Festival,” where handmade cards were sold to support local and global charities. Through these efforts, Marilee ensured that generosity and justice were at the center of the church’s ministry.
Her commitment to service and faith continues through the Charles and Marilee Hattendorf Endowment at the Oklahoma Disciples Foundation. This permanent fund provides ongoing support for the ministries of Southern Hills Christian Church and the Division of Overseas Ministries—causes close to Marilee’s heart. In this way, her legacy of compassion and global vision will continue blessing others for generations to come.
The Foundation also stewards the Mary E. Hattendorf Endowment, established in memory of Charlie’s mother, which supports the music ministry of First Christian Church in Midwest City. Together, these endowments reflect the Hattendorf family’s deep commitment to nurturing faith and strengthening the church.
Marilee will be remembered not only for her many acts of service but also for the warmth and generosity she shared with everyone she met. Her life reminds us that faith lived out in action leaves a legacy far beyond our years.
